My name is Judy Fry. I started riding at 3 years of age and despite my parent’s wishes I have never wanted to do anything else but work with horses. As a child I was a keen member of the Surrey Union Pony Club achieving my A test and later on my BHSII instructors qualification. My passion is eventing and I have taken two horses to advanced level and competed in two star, three day events.

It was one of my advanced horses, a rather handsome 16.2hh chestnut gelding called Prince who introduced me to BALANCE. When I first met Carol Brett, we had been having a frustrating summer. I had had to withdraw from Windsor 3DE as Prince’s stride had become short and unlevel. He was also very tense in his work. I decided to have everything checked and spent a lot of time and money with vets, blacksmiths and saddlers. I followed all their advice and brought Prince back into work only to find he was no better! Meeting Carol was our turning point, as she explained and demonstrated that Prince was probably unable to move properly because the saddle I was using at that time was preventing him from lifting his back and showing his beautiful paces. I started using the BALANCE Saddling System and, to cut a long story short, we made it to Windsor the following year. It was his showjumping round on the last day, after a good dressage and clear xcountry, that pleased me the most. He jumped a great clear round because he was not sore or tired. I put a lot of this down to him being able to move correctly and comfortably, in his BALANCE saddle .

It was a huge honour when Carol asked me to join the BALANCE 'team' as one of their registered Saddle Consultants. After a long training and looking at many horses with Carol I was let out on my own in 1997.

I consider myself very lucky to have such a great job helping horses and people. I have been on both sides of the fence (as a saddle supplier/fitter and a saddle purchaser) so I know how frustrating it can be when everybody gives you conflicting advice about what they think you should do with your horse. As a BALANCE registered Saddle Consultant, I have been trained to observe and pay attention to the horses for the most reliable feedback about what works and what doesn't work.

I also enjoy teaching riders and training horses to achieve their goals. I have spent considerable time with people who are very knowledgable about equine bio-mechanics and and can help horses and riders to achieve a natural balance that allows both to move efficiently and without unnatural strain. I enjoy teaching people who ride at all levels.

The photos are of me riding 'Love Story II' (stable name Teddy) enjoying Firle Place event last year and the skewbald is a young horse called Jester doing his very first Hunter Trial.

Please feel free to call for a chat about your horse.
